Daria’s Top 5 Highlights in Barcelona

The Team May 27th, 2026

Barcelona had been on my travel list for years, and when the opportunity finally came, it didn’t disappoint! From world-class football to incredible food and jaw-dropping architecture, the city delivers on every level. Here are my top five highlights from an unforgettable trip.

1. Football match at Camp Nou

Seeing FC Barcelona live at Camp Nou had been on my bucket list for a long time. Plans were put on hold when the stadium closed for a major refurbishment, but when it reopened at the end of last year, I knew it was the perfect time to book my trip.

The atmosphere at the game was something else – electric, passionate, and completely immersive. Even if you’re not a die-hard football fan, it’s an experience that’s hard to beat. I’d also highly recommend visiting the FC Barcelona Museum. It’s very interactive, and the audio guide really brings the club’s rich history to life.

2. Sagrada Familia

I’m not much of an architecture buff, but the Sagrada Familia genuinely took my breath away. It’s one of those places that photos simply don’t do it justice.

The audio guide is well worth using. It helped me understand the symbolism behind the design and the story of its construction, which has been ongoing for over a century. It’s not just a building, it’s an experience.

3. Spanish tapas culture

No trip to Spain would be complete without indulging in tapas and Barcelona is the perfect place to do it. My favourite spot was Tapa Tapa, and one of the best things about it is that there are multiple locations dotted around the city, making it easy to pop in wherever you are. It’s also great value for money, especially considering the quality and variety on offer.

From patatas bravas to fresh seafood, every dish felt like a small celebration of Spanish cuisine. The best part? Sharing plates and trying a bit of everything! It’s such a relaxed, social way to dine that perfectly matches the city’s vibe.

4. La Boqueria Market

A visit to Mercat de la Boqueria is a must for foodies. Located just off La Rambla, this vibrant market is packed with colourful stalls selling everything from fresh fruit and juices to seafood, cured meats, and local delicacies.

It’s a great place to grab a quick bite while exploring the city or simply wandering through and taking in the lively atmosphere. Whether you’re after something sweet or savoury, there’s something for everyone.

5. The beach and city combo

One of the things that surprised me most about Barcelona is how effortlessly it combines city life with beach relaxation. After a busy morning of sightseeing, you can be lying on the sand within minutes.

Barceloneta Beach was my go-to spot – lively, scenic, and perfect for unwinding. Whether you fancy a swim, a walk along the promenade, or a drink by the sea, it’s the ideal way to balance out the cultural side of the trip.
