My Icelandic Experience

The Team November 16th, 2016
blue-lagoon

The group in the Blue Lagoon, Reykjavik, Iceland

I was the lucky one chosen to go on the Reykjavik FAM trip with Icelandair- and what a FAM it was!

We’ve arrived…and in style with a private transfer picking us up from Reykjavik Airport taking us straight to the best part – the Blue Lagoon (approximately 20 minutes). I wasn’t quite sure what to expect, but it was just the best way to properly kick start our trip. We were given towels and wrist bands on arrival (it was all very high-tech), the band activates your locker and can be used for purchases at the swim up bar where you can enjoy a wee Prosecco or two while in the warm lagoon….just perfect, I could stay here all day!

We were staying at the 3-star Klettur Hotel, so once we got checked in, it was a quick change and straight off to dinner at the Canopy by Hilton. This hotel is definitely ‘the trendy one’ – I just loved the atmosphere. To my surprise we were treated to a delicious 5 course tasting menu accompanied by lots of wine in their lovely Geiri Smart Restaurant.  I’m a massive foodie – so I was in gastro heaven, it was probably the best meal I’ve ever had!

whale-watching

On the boat in my suit, whale watching, Reykjavik

We were all up bright and early as our morning was to start with Whale Watching. It was beautiful clear blue skies and the sun was shining bright however wow – it was absolutely freezing when we got out to sea! Luckily we were all provided with warm snow looking type suits which looked awful but did the job! Sadly we didn’t manage to see any whales this trip – I think it’s just your luck.

horse-riding

After lunch it was time for our Horse Riding Lava Tour.  We got separated into groups according to our riding skill level and then each paired up with a horse. I haven’t ridden since I was a little girl so I was  a little nervous! Luckily for me my horse, ‘Skroggur’ meaning old man, was very well behaved and just wanted to stop and have a nibble on anything green we passed! We were out riding for approximately 1 ½ hours. It really was an ideal way to experience the Icelandic scenery.

My view from the Klettur Hotel, Reykjavik

Well what can I say Reykjavik is by far one of my top visited cities – from the unique landscapes, exciting winter activities and tasty food I will remember this trip forever and hopefully return very soon. I would highly recommend my Icelandic experience to anyone that fancies something a little different off the beaten track!
