If you are staying for a few days in Amsterdam, we would highly recommend a day trip to see the bulbfields in their full glory.
In March the fields just outside Amsterdam change from sandy patches to carpets of green sprouts and once the season is in full swing, the fields are swathed in red, pink, purple, orange and yellow blooms - a truly stunning sight.
The most well known area of bulbfields is about one hour southwest of Amsterdam and includes the small village of Lisse which is home to the famous Kreukenhof Gardens. Arguably one of the world's most spectacular and beautiful gardens, this park contains millions of perfectly planted blooming bulbs as well as many other floral displays in indoor pavilions. The gardens have a fairytale, almost surreal quality.
